Luggage Fee Cheat, Safest School in America, Toll System In Vehicles and More…Private Investigator Technology #207

private Investigator tips

LEach week I search for technology news that can relate to investigators to keep investigators up to date on technology trends around the world.

This week I found some interesting topics I am sure you will be interested in checking out.

Here we go.

Don’t Pay for Checking Luggage With the Wool and Oak Voyager Luggage Set

Wool and Oak appears to have been around for a least a couple of years and they created a bag that can help you get around paying to have your luggage checked.  Basically, they created a larger bag that separates into smaller bags.  The bags are pretty stylish and the company claims you can pack for up to 5 days.

Generally speaking, I think this would be pretty neat to have for my personal life but this is definitely something for investigators that are required to travel may find valuable, especially when trying to avoid having to check luggage.

Batteries With Greater Storage Ability Can Potentially Increase Electric Car Ranges

I won’t pretend to understand all the scientific information that I read in the article from Futurism.com. The long story short is that the University of Waterloo claims that a specific process could dramatically increase battery storage capacity.  And while it appears that tests have only been conducted on a small scale, it is believed this will directly impact electric cars in the future and help them surpass the range of traditional vehicles.

For me personally, I would love to own an electric vehicle as they have made great strides over the years. The Tesla brand specifically has change electric vehicles as it relates to driving range and power.  I think that owning an electric vehicle could potentially save investigators a great deal of money as it relates to gas expenses.   And saving that kind of money can help the overall financial bottom line whether it be a private investigator business owner or employee.

I am looking forward to the next major breakthrough.

Audi is Changing the Way Drivers Use Toll Tags

According to Engadget Audi is changing the way people deal with toll roads.  Audio is going to make a built-in transponder system under the rearview mirror called the Integrated Toll Module (ITM).

This will make life easier for many drivers since you won’t have to move traditional stick-on tags or move tags from one vehicle to another.

And let’s face it, it will be nice to not have some ugly box attached to your front windshield It will be one less thing in the window of a surveillance vehicle as well.

This will work on 97.8 percent of toll booths in the United States and will work with some systems in Canada and Mexico.

Audi has not stated which vehicle or vehicles this feature will be in but Engadget stated the press photo shows an Audi A8.

No price has been announced.

Quick Thoughts

I think this would be ideal for any investigator that has to travel whether it be for surveillance or general investigative work.  It is just one less thing to worry about.  I don’t think I can afford an Audi so I might have to wait until other car makers get this technology in their vehicles.

The Safest School in America Wants Every School in Indiana to Have the Same Technology

In 2014 there was a story done on Southwestern High School in Shelbyville, which was touted the safest school in America as it was chosen to pilot the virtual command technology created by a company called NetTalon.

Now Indiana wants all schools equipped with this technology.  The technology includes many cameras within the school, key fobs worn by teachers that can be activated when there is a life-threatening emergency, and hardened doors that can not be easily penetrated.

This technology is directly linked to the dispatch center in real time where they have the ability to respond faster and even control the situation by allowing what doors the bad guy can go through and which ones they can’t.

I share this not to debate gun control or anything of that nature.  I do think our schools need to be better protected.  I think what these schools are doing through technology is a great start.

That is all I have for you this week. If you know of some technology that relates to the investigation field be sure to share it with me so I can see if it is a good fit for a future technology summary article.

See you next week
