Canon’s Artificial Intelligence Speedlite 470EX-AI Flash May Help Private Investigators #213

private Investigator tips

If you have ever tried to photograph in an area that is not well lit then you can probably feel my pain when it comes to getting a decent looking photograph.

Even with the flash on my Canon T3i, it doesn’t always light what I am photographing well enough.  So then I find myself turning off the flash and adjusting other settings to take a decent photo without a flash…in bad lighting.

Needless to say, you want to have good pictures of evidence or anything for that matter when you are taking photos as a private investigator.  You don’t want to send your client crappy pictures or have to embed crappy pictures into your report.

So what possible solutions to not taking crappy photos as a private investigator?

Well, you could take a photography class, which is actually something I don’t think private investigators do but should do (me included).  This would help you learn your camera a bit better and take potentially better photos as it relates to your job as a private investigator.

Or you Can Purchase the Speedlite 470EX-AI

Or you can purchase the Speedlite 470EX-AI that uses artificial intelligence to bounce light off a wall or ceiling to light whatever you are photographing better.

The Speedlite 470EX-AI calculates the distance between the camera, the ceiling, and the subject and incorporates the lighting in a room to take a better picture.

The Speedlite 470EX-AI allows those who are inexperienced using a flash to take good-looking shots of their subject.

Now to be clear, the context of all the reviews on this device relates to photographing people.  So without testing it personally, I don’t know if the flash would treat any object as if it were a human object, but an assumption would be that it does.

Another thing about this device is that it only works with Canon EOS cameras and some of the more recent models.  My Canon T3i doesn’t make the cut unfortunately according to the Canon video above that talks about the Speedlite 470EX-AI.  I am not sure why it isn’t fully supported.  I can use it but I don’t think it will have all the functionality. Here is the link to all the devices it supports.

Some of the models this flash supports are the following:

  • EOS Rebel T6i
  • EOS Rebel T6s
  • EOS Rebel T7i
  • EOS Rebel SL2
  • EOS 77D
  • EOS 80D
  • EOS 7D Mark II
  • EOS 6D Mark II
  • EOS 5D Mark I
  • EOS 5DS
  • EOS 5DS R
  • EOS- 1D X Mark II

This flash is going to be selling for $400 dollars in the United States starting in April of 2018.  If it is as impressive as it looks, then it might be something worth checking out to see if it improves the lighting on your photos.

If you are looking for some affordable flashes for your DSLR, I found a few you might like below.  I am sure I will be testing one of these soon.
